Summary#
Picking up immediately after the King’s Cup, the party carried an exhaustion-level-6 Aldric toward the King’s Fair healer tents, with Azrith (returned from his unexplained overnight absence) helping. A history check pointed them toward clerics from House Oswall, but the party found a friendlier option first: Father Caldus Vey, a priest of the Royal Chapel working the healer tents. For 100 gp of diamond dust plus a 300 gp materials fee and a 100 gp donation (400 gp total), he agreed to spend the evening casting Greater Restoration on Aldric, capped at three castings per day. Overnight care plus a long rest cleared Aldric from exhaustion 6 down to 1; Odine Dunmere cleared her own King’s Cup exhaustion down to 1 as well. Source: Transcript.
While Aldric recovered, Cassian and Azrith slipped out to finally infiltrate White Feather Tor, the House Godrin camp, using the intelligence map Duke Tristan Blackwood had provided. Both went in invisible—Cassian via a warlock spell (upcast to cover Azrith too), sustaining it while flying above the camp using his Celestial Revelation wings; Azrith on foot, shimmying up between two close-set gate pillars after a failed first attempt, then landing a quiet stealth check to slip inside undetected. Two patrolling knights nearly spotted Cassian and Azrith in the treeline beforehand but wrote it off as nothing. Source: Transcript.
Inside, Azrith reached the Messenger Tent and found it empty but locked down tight—crates and drawers secured with padlocks. He lifted a guard’s keyring with a Sleight of Hand check (rerolled via Heroic Inspiration to a 23), used it to open a table drawer, and recovered an already-opened letter bearing House Godrin’s broken seal. A separate strongbox yielded 73 gp and a potion of healing, which he took satchel and all. Cassian, unable to get anything useful from the empty Messenger Tent, instead eavesdropped on the camp’s main tent and made out a fragment of a hushed conversation he identified (History check) as Percival Godrin’s voice: “Keep your voice down. They’re not chasing a ghost. She’s alive. We’ve already confirmed it.” Circling the camp once more before leaving, Cassian spotted House Godrin’s champion for the first time: a nearly 9–10-foot-tall knight in arcane relic armor and helm, wielding an enchanted axe, known at the tournaments as “the Crow”—Sir Thorin Cassavar. Cassian and Azrith regrouped in the woods, compared notes, and returned to camp to find Odine already asleep. Source: Transcript.
The letter Azrith recovered confirmed what Cassian overheard: House Godrin believes Maralynn—the witch the party has only known as Jevon’s teacher—is alive and has been located, not the “ghost” or dead legend they’d been treating her as. The next morning, with Aldric still recovering (napping through the day at Father Caldus Vey’s suggestion to shed one more exhaustion level, and getting good-natured ribbing from the priest about his “blood curse” tiefling heritage), Cassian, Odine, and Azrith brought the letter directly to Duke Tristan Blackwood at Clover Hill via Renny Blackwood’s emergency access. Blackwood only knew the name from folklore—an archmage called Marlin who once served King Aldrich the Wise, presumed dead since “the ancient war”—but Odine, hedging carefully, confirmed there may really be a Marlin alive in the Vale. Reading the Godrin letter rattled Blackwood: he concluded he has a mole feeding House Godrin information about his own dealings (he admitted to having “flirted with one of their nieces”), and that Godrin already knows he is sponsoring the party. Source: Transcript.
To buy time and protect the real Maralynn, Odine improvised a decoy: a fabricated name, Aerendyl Morath, and a location deep in the Thornwood Vale far from home, framed as a dangerous, self-sufficient “witch” who could hold her own against Godrin agents for days. She backed the lie with a genuine token—the charm pendant from her home village, removed from her necklace and handed to Blackwood—to make the false lead convincing enough to feed through his own intelligence channels as a diversion. Blackwood agreed to float it. Separately, Cassian checked in with Jevon (off-page, via message), telling him House Godrin’s real target is his old teacher, not him—Jevon confirmed Maralynn is the one who trained him and hasn’t seen her in years, and is now weighing whether to search for her himself rather than wait. Source: Transcript.
Back at camp, the party finalized their gear ahead of that evening’s Menagerie bout—Aldric’s commissioned splint armor, Azrith’s half-paid +1 scimitar, Cassian studying his Eyes of Charming, Odine confirming her attunement to the Shadowfell Shard—and reported to Holt’s team at the arena. Renny Blackwood left them a short note wishing them luck (“shorthanded on such short notice… don’t die”). Cassian’s Unseen Servant, sent ahead to scout the prior match in their bracket, reported four black knights fighting a beast that let out a deep, lion-like roar; its own rudimentary sketch confirmed a manticore. Walking out to a roaring crowd and an unfazed manticore, Odine attempted an opening Intimidation check (14, using Heroic Inspiration) that failed to faze the beast. The session ended there, with combat and initiative to be rolled at the start of the next session. Source: Transcript.
Open Threads#
- The Menagerie bout vs. a manticore: about to begin: initiative not yet rolled. Aldric and Odine both enter at exhaustion level 1.
- Sir Thorin Cassavar (“the Crow”): House Godrin’s champion, seen for the first time at White Feather Tor—not yet engaged, but a serious combat threat if the party crosses paths with him directly.
- Maralynn confirmed alive: House Godrin has located her, per the intercepted letter and overheard conversation. Jevon is weighing whether to search for her himself.
- The decoy plan: Odine’s false lead (Aerendyl Morath) is now in Duke Blackwood’s hands to float through his channels—outcome unresolved.
- Blackwood’s mole: he suspects a leak in his own camp (possibly tied to a Godrin niece he “flirted with”)—not identified or resolved.
- The stolen satchel’s contents: 73 gp, a potion of healing, and an unread second letter (“people who travel without banners”) Azrith only skimmed—not yet followed up on.
