Salt House#

Summary#
The Salt House is a former shipyard warehouse in Havenport’s dock ward, now the town’s survivors’ community center and the only lit building in the village. It serves as a tavern, gathering place, and de facto inn. Mauve Marigold is in charge here. Source: 2026.09.29.
Description#
- A large warehouse near the docks, converted into a tavern/community center.
- The largest source of light in the village — the party found it by following the smell of fried fish, salted stew, and ale.
- Warm, meaningful light spilling from within against the dark, unlit streets.
- Poorly maintained cobbled streets lead to it. Most homes are dark; street lights are not kept burning.
- Westmere heraldry is everywhere — faded crests carved into old beams, salt-stained brass fixtures — remnants of when the town was built.
- Roughly 25–30 people inside during the party’s visit.
- It’s “sort of a multi-purpose haven of sorts” — not just a tavern. Ian calls it where “most of us spend most of our time here in the dock ward.”
Food and Drink#
- Fisherman’s stew and bread (house soup): 2 silver
- Salted pork and mash
- Pan-fried catch of the day with vegetables: 3 silver
- Sides: bread, cheese, pickled onion
- Harbor Gose: a stormy dark beer, 3 copper a pint. It is light and briny, because Havenport salts its ale. As the local saying goes, “the first one tastes like the harbor, but the second one tastes like home.” Source: 2026.10.06.
- Hot spiced cider: 4 copper per cup
- Westmere brandy: 1 silver for an 8-ounce pour, 1 gold for the bottle
Lodging#
- Common room cot: 1 silver per night
- Private room: 3 silver per night (only one available; fits three comfortably)
- The party took the private room; Cassian tipped 10 silver for food and lodging.
People#
- Mauve Marigold: In charge. Sits at a table near the bar, wearing a weathered sailor’s pin that marks her authority.
- Edith Rooke: Bartender and server. Brings food and drinks, handles room bookings.
- Hesta Cole: Healer/nurse, sits in the corner treating Wither victims.
- Survivors of Havenport’s decline gather here — “Mav and her people” took refuge from the undead in the village.
Notes#
- Ian described it as the place where survivors gather in the dock ward.
- The party’s first meal in Havenport; they warmed up and planned their next move here.
- Mauve met the party here and agreed to let them stay.
- The party learned much of what they know about Havenport’s history and the Wither from conversations here.
- Mauve Marigold keeps the tavern’s ledgers in a study next to the main hall. Source: 2026.10.06.
- On 2026.10.06, the party returned for a drink before facing the veil. Mauve told them about the town’s past attempts to break it and offered her own blood if needed. The party decided to spend the night here and go to the veil in the morning. Source: 2026.10.06.
Relationships#
- Havenport: Located in the dock ward, the survivors’ hub.
- Mauve Marigold: The person in charge.
- Westermere Manor: The manor’s fall led to Havenport’s decline; the Salt House is what remains of the town’s community life.
- Investigate the Pestilence: Hesta treats its victims here.
