Ian#
Summary#
Ian is an old Oathkeeper knight posted alone at the teleportation circle in Westermere Manor, Havenport. He has a long, unkempt white beard and the look of a man who has been stationed there a long time. The GM confirmed his surname and title as Ser Ian Wren in the campaign-info Discord channel. Notes#
- Took the circle’s keystone back from Aldric when the party arrived. Warned them, “you won’t want to linger here long.”
- Recognized Cassian as “Lord Fortescue’s son”: “people tend to have short memories, don’t they… I’ve been doing this a long time.” See House Fortescue.
- Treated Havenport as Aldric’s home and asked whether he recalled the fall of House Westermere.
- Wears an amulet that he says keeps the undead away. He tries to find the village children who wander up at night and warn them off the undercroft.
- A fellow Oathkeeper relieves him every two weeks.
- Named the blight the Wither and said it is taking more and more of Havenport’s weak and sick.
- His grandfather fought beside King Aldrich against the Dark King. He told the party the veteran Oathkeepers’ legend of it (see Investigate the Pestilence), and said the Wither’s symptoms resemble what their ancestors suffered.
- Pointed the party to the Salt House for lodging. Has never met the manor’s ghosts.

- Edith Rooke at the Salt House calls him “that old handsome devil, Sir Ian Wren”. The two seem to have a romantic interest, but he doesn’t visit and she won’t go up to the manor. Source: 2026.09.29.
- The party found him dozing at his post by the Oath Gate, chair tipped back against the wall. “It’s not the darkness, the loneliness that gets to you.” Source: 2026.10.06.
- He said the Oathkeepers have ordered him not to enter the undercroft because of incidents of missing persons. He is stationed only to man the Oath Gate. The order knows the black veil exists. Source: 2026.10.06.
- He said only a paladin, or King Aldrich himself, could smite the veil, and that he knows no living mortal with that much divine power. “If the order of the Oathkeepers knew someone… we wouldn’t have already done it?” Source: 2026.10.06.
- His amulet keeps ghosts from coming near him, so lending it out would leave him exposed. He refused to break his orders despite Odine Dunmere’s pleading. His parting words: “If it is truly fated by the gods, then I imagine you will all find a way to get through it.” Source: 2026.10.06.
