Rory#
Summary#
Rory is the orc bartender and proprietor of the Ragged Flagon, a makeshift tavern in the King's Tourney campgrounds. He is a practical, no-nonsense host who keeps prices low and expectations lower—his house ale is terrible but effective, and he does not clean up after anyone. Source: 2026.05.19.
Notes#
An orc running a bar is an uncommon sight in this part of the Crownlands. He seems very comfortable and experienced behind the bar.
House ale runs 1 silver piece per flagon. Cheap, gut-rumbling, and warm.
His only house rule: “Don’t get into any fights. I don’t like to clean up.”
He asked Cassian and the party what brought them to the tourney and what bout they were entered in, and seemed genuinely interested.
His establishment draws common folk, salt-of-the-earth festival-goers, and tournament participants—not the noble houses.
Full name is Rory Greathorn. He won Cassian’s 5-gp wager under the double-or-nothing clause (two party members were downed). The payout was already complete by the time the party visited the Coin Master. Source: 2026.06.11.
Cassian rolled persuasion 24 to secure the party’s multi-day mead supply at half price—12 silver total for several days of Minnie’s black currant mead (spiced with cardamom and cinnamon). Source: 2026.06.11.
Bet 25 gp against the party completing the Crown Gauntlet once he heard they’d chosen it over straight combat; Cassian took the counter-position. Rory lost—shown in the crowd throwing his hat into the mud in disgust during Cassian’s victory speech. Source: 2026.06.23, 2026.07.14.
Gave the party free mead “on the house” after losing the bet again, vowing to stop betting against “the Crushing Crusaders.” Aldric used the moment to steal an entire mead barrel from him via Sleight of Hand (19), completely undetected. Source: 2026.08.11.
Runs a weekly drinking tournament at the Ragged Flagon, the King’s Cup: entry fee in gold, escalating-DC Constitution saves, winner takes the pot plus an oversized brass drinking mug. Was visibly shocked to learn the party’s next opponent is House Wulfhelm’s own Kardis Wulfhelm, and hedged his future bets accordingly. Took a 5 gp side bet from Cassian backing Aldric to do well (Cassian won it) and separately facilitated a rigged 20 gp side bet Odine Dunmere arranged against her own success. Refuses to say what’s in the tournament’s final “King’s Mistake” shot. Paid out Aldric’s 90 gp and the mug after Aldric won the whole tournament, outlasting an unnamed dwarf who died from the final round. Source: 2026.08.18.
Revealed he bet against the party in the manticore bout and won handsomely (“you’ve made me a wealthy man again”), collecting his winnings from the Coin Master before they even arrived. Poured free drinks anyway (two per head, Aldric’s brass mug filled specially) and warned the party to watch their backs—“those nobles, they like to play dirty.” Source: 2026.09.15.
